The third-generation XC70 represents the rugged, all-wheel-drive variant of Volvo’s popular V70. Featured a classic five door station wagon body style with pronounced black cladding, increased ride height and skid plates. Engine choices spanned a range of inline five and inline six options, including a 3.2 liter naturally aspirated six cylinder and the powerful turbocharged 3.0 liter T6 variant, producing up to 300hp and 325 lb-ft of torque, as well as fuel efficient D5 diesels in international markets. All wheel drive was standard on the XC70, mated to either a six speed automatic gearbox or, in some markets, a manual transmission though the latter was rare in the third generation. The third generation concluded production in 2016, marking the end of the venerable V70 wagon lineage and paving the way for Volvo’s focus on crossovers like the V90 Cross Country.
