The best description for this 1929 Ford Model AA – “North Pole Stables Truck” is a garage find: however, it’s been out under the southern California oak trees for the past 10 years. The truck is 99% original. Except for the newer model headlamps and an incomplete attempt at adding turn indicators, the truck is just like it was when it rolled off the assembly line, with the notable changes and patina only age can bring. See the video for a great walk-around that will give you the look and feel.
Mechanically, it is all there, and it runs. The engine was rebuilt some 15 years ago by H&H in La Crescenta, CA and there cannot be more than 500 miles on this motor. Some issues in need of attention include wiring (it’s original too), brakes (plan ahead when stopping), it has an exhaust leak, and the radiator is not holding much at all. It will be a great project.
This truck was used by Santa Claus in the Pasadena area (thus the 1929 Cal License Plates) until about 10 years ago. You will see the Reindeer Harnesses, Snow Chains, Tow Rope, Sleigh Bells, Mucking Tools, Hand Truck, Snowshoes, etc. and the North Pole Stables Door Signage.
My wife was following me one day when I was driving around town. She reported that in the “wake” of me passing people did not do a double take, it was a triple take or more. It is especially remarkable during the holidays. If you park it, plan on several conversations.
