Fiat 1100 S Berlina “Gobbone” MM

Some cars haven’t just witnessed history. They are history. This 1947 Fiat 1100 S “Gobbone” is a shining example of that. And what an example it is. This elegant coupe took part multiple times in the Mille Miglia, the world’s most legendary road race.

Its authenticity is impeccably documented, with an original Certificato di Origine from Fiat Classiche and inclusion in the official Registro 1000 Miglia. That means direct eligibility for future editions of the Mille Miglia and other prestigious classic car events.

Expertly restored and in beautiful condition
In the early 1990s, this Fiat underwent a complete bare-metal restoration. Every panel was stripped down to the raw steel before being rebuilt with meticulous care. The result is a sleek and flawless body, finished in a timeless and correct shade that highlights the flowing lines of this rare coupe. The details are exceptional, and inside you’ll find an interior that is perfectly faithful to the original specifications. From the upholstery to the stitching and hardware, it is truly a showcase of craftsmanship.

Comprehensively overhauled in recent years
Mechanically, the car has been brought fully up to standard. In 2022, more than €26,000 worth of work was carried out by a well-known Italian specialist focused on Mille Miglia entries. The engine, gearbox and braking system were all thoroughly overhauled. From the moment you start the car, it is clear that this 1100 S has been carefully dialed in and drives just as it should.

A story that sets it apart
So what makes a “Gobbone” so special? The nickname refers to its rounded, aerodynamic shape, crafted by Fiat’s own Carrozzerie Speciali. It was directly inspired by the pre-war 508 C Mille Miglia, something that is clearly reflected in its streamlined aluminum body. The 1,089 cc four-cylinder produces 51 horsepower, which is enough to push the car to a top speed of around 150 km/h. For its time, that was genuinely impressive. Even today, it remains a wonderfully rewarding car to drive.

The Gobbone is more than a pretty face. It is a storyteller on wheels. With a rich racing history, extensive documentation including past invoices, photographs and original certificates, this very special Fiat 1100 is ready for any concours or road-going adventure.
