About this 1951 Jaguar XK120 Base Model

VIN: 660594

1951 Jaguar XK 120 OTS (Open Two Seater) RHD w/Racing Heritage

Modern upgrades and a freshly rebuilt engine make this Right Hand Drive 1951 Jaguar XK120 a functional turn key ready to use classic with excellent provenance and known ownership history to almost new. We have some period race footage as well that is now on YouTube. Links available on request. We also have the Jaguar Heritage Certificate.

The car was purchased in the mid 1950’s by Franklyn Boyd. Mr. Boyd was a well known singer and music manager in the 1950’s and 1960’s in England and was also an early manager for the UK singer Cliff Richard.

Mr. Boyd actively campaigned the Jaguar in racing events in the UK in the 1950’s and 1960’s. He actually put a photo of the car on one of his records. He immigrated to Canada in the early 1970’s and brought this car with him here at that time. The car was professionally restored in the early 1990's and it still wears the paint from that time.

The car was inherited by Mr. Boyd's son in 2007 and the current owner purchased it from the son in 2012.

The car has recently been given many upgrades to prepare it for vintage events. Most notably a freshly rebuilt 3. 4 liter engine (not original), tubular shock conversion, disc brakes and dual fuel pumps. However the car was never taken to a track after this work and has only seen very limited road use under current ownership.

Some specifics of note;

Modern Wilwood front disc brakes, Jaguar XK150 rear disc brakes

GAZ brand tube shock conversion

Period 1950's era leather racing bucket seats (originally red but dyed black many years ago).

Dual fuel pumps.

The original Tri-bar headlamps have been replaced with later XK 140 and XK150 style Lucas “J. 700” units.

The original tail light assemblies have both been replaced with later XK140 style units.

The older custom dual exhaust system, employing vintage Thrush brand straight through mufflers, is fitted and exits on each side at the back of the car. It is quite loud as well!

The original style generator has been replaced with an alternator built into a generator housing to give it the same appearance as the original.

A modern electric pusher fan has been added to the front of the new radiator. The original radiator fan was also removed.

The car is equipped with a 4-spoke steering wheel that has been fitted with a later flat horn push in place of the original pointed centre manette.

A single 12-volt battery has replaced the original dual 6-volt battery arrangement. A new master battery disconnect switch has been installed behind the front seats on the battery cover.

The gauges have been rebuilt by Nisonger Instruments but the combination oil level and gas level gauge works intermittently. Odometer was zeroed when rebuilt.

The paint is now 30+ years old so there are several chips, scratches and cracks in spots. It is not show paint by far but does present respectably for a driver.

The car includes a unique and very rare period fiberglass hardtop assembly that was produced by Universal Laminations in London England. It has a black vinyl cover that is in aged condition. Its rear window is in good condition. The headliner is in good condition but is missing one of its side trim panels. The hardtop comes with its own set of side screens with sliding Plexiglas windows as well. Unfortunately the original rear mounting hardware is no longer present and the side screen on the passenger side does not fit well to the door and has a poor fit to the hardtop.

Two of Mr. Boyd's number plates FB4 are included with the car along with some race results and times, his period helmet and several spare parts.
