What is the history of the Lancia Aurelia B50 and how many were produced?

The Lancia Aurelia B50 has a fascinating history as one of the most elegant Italian convertibles of the early 1950s. Produced from 1950 to 1952, the B50 was part of Lancia’s groundbreaking Aurelia series that featured the world’s first series-production V6 engine - an innovative 1.8-liter overhead-valve unit designed by Francesco De Virgilio.

The B50 was built on a platform chassis (rather than the monocoque construction of the B10 sedan) specifically designed for coachbuilders. Most B50s were beautifully clothed by Pinin Farina as five-seater cabriolets, though other coachbuilders like Vignale also created bodies for these chassis.

As for production numbers, Lancia built a total of 484 B50 chassis, along with 98 of the related B51 model (which had a wider track and different specifications). Of these, approximately 265 Pinin Farina cabriolets were created, making them quite rare and highly sought after today. The B50 represented the pinnacle of 1950s Italian automotive elegance, combining advanced engineering with stunning Pinin Farina styling.
