The first-gen Thunderbird is one of the most iconic designs to ever come out of Ford and is a 1950s legend. Launched as an all-new personal "sports car" in 1955 to battle the Corvette market from Chevrolet, the Thunderbird was very unique in that it had a fully disappearing folding soft top with an optional removable hard top that made the car very practical all year round. Over 16,000 T-Birds sold in 1955 alone, outselling the Corvette by a huge amount of which only 700 were produced that same year. Today these "baby birds" are very sought after and have been loved and enjoyed by many generations of enthusiasts.
This 1955 model year Thunderbird has the 292ci V8 with an optional 3-Speed automatic transmission, power seat, and removable hard top. This is a very special car in that it was purchased by the current owner's father in 1963 and has remained in the same family ever since. The car was converted to a 12volt electrical system and also has beautiful and classy chrome wire wheels. In 1988 the car was sent to Frank Stubs, a well known Thunderbird specialist, and received a full, frame-up restoration. The car was repainted in striking Torch Red with a White "porthole" hard top, and Black and White interior. The car still shows very well today with excellent paint finish, beautiful chrome, black canvas soft top, fully carpeted trunk, and an interior that still looks fresh and new. Recently the car has received a new battery, oil change, and replacement of the water pump. In 2022 the T-Bird received extensive servicing including; new fuel pump, carburetor overhaul, brake fluid change, transmission service, diff fluid service, coolant flush with new heater valve, and power steering flush. This T-bird is ready for the car show season and will surely impress the neighbors as you pass by in pure 1950s glam style.
