The Mercedes-Benz 190SL was conceived at the urging of legendary importer Max Hoffman as a stylish and more practical companion to the iconic 300SL Gullwing. Sharing much of its celebrated design language, the 190SL combined elegant styling, open-air motoring, and everyday usability, becoming one of Mercedes-Benz's most successful postwar sports cars with more than 26,000 examples produced between 1955 and 1963.
This exceptional 1961 190SL underwent a comprehensive frame-off restoration by renowned marque specialists SL-Classics of Düren, Germany. Originally sourced from California, the car was transported to Germany where it was meticulously restored to factory specifications over an eighteen-month period. Great care was taken to preserve and restore original components whenever possible, resulting in an authenticity and level of craftsmanship seldom found today.
Finished in striking Code 172 Anthracite Grey Metallic, this beautifully restored roadster is complemented by a Tobacco Brown canvas soft top and a luxurious Cognac leather interior. Accompanying the car are a matching Anthracite hardtop, factory tool kit, and a custom set of matching Cognac leather luggage.
Since completion of the restoration, only a handful of break-in miles have been added, offering its next owner the rare opportunity to experience one of Mercedes-Benz's most iconic roadsters much as it would have appeared when new in 1961.
