This 1961 Studebaker Lark VIII is one of a reported 1,002 Regal convertibles produced for the model year. It underwent a refurbishment in the 2010s and was awarded Best-in-Class in the Collector American, 1947-75category at the 2018 Keeneland Concours d’Elegance in Lexington, Kentucky, before it was purchased by the current owner. The car is finished in coral pink with a black soft top over black and silver vinyl upholstery, and power comes from a replacement 259ci V8 paired with a Flight-O-Matic three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes an aluminum radiator, a four-barrel carburetor, a dual exhaust system, a Vintage Air HVAC system, and a push-button AM radio. This Lark VIII is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with factory literature, a reproduction window sticker & service records.
The Lark Regal received quad headlights for 1961, while additional model-wide updates for the year included cowl ventilation, a revised steering setup, and larger inline-six and V8 engine options. This example is finished in coral pink and features chrome bumpers and trim, Lark VIII fender badging, a driver-door mirror, and a black soft top. A reproduction window sticker is affixed to the left-quarter window.
Silver-painted 15″ steel wheels wear chrome Studebaker-branded hubcaps, and they are mounted with 225/75 Coker Classic whitewall radial tires. A matching spare wheel with a Firestone bias-ply tire is stowed under a cover in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by hydraulic drums at all four corners.
The cabin features front and rear bench seating trimmed in black and silver vinyl along with color-coordinated door panels. Equipment includes a Vintage Air HVAC system, a Studebaker-branded push-button radio, front lap belts, a Lark-branded under-dash tissue holder, white Studebaker-branded front floor mats, and a black Studebaker-branded rear floor mat.
The two-tone steering wheel frames white-dial instrumentation including a 120-mph speedometer, a clock, and a combination gauge with readouts for fuel level and engine temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 2,700 miles, approximately 2,500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 259ci V8 was installed during the 2010s refurbishment and features a four-barrel carburetor and red-painted valve covers. The car is equipped with a Wizard Cooling aluminum radiator, and an oil change was performed under current ownership.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed automatic transmission that was purchased by Studebaker from Ford and marketed as the Flight-O-Matic. A transmission leak was repaired under current ownership. The car is equipped with a dual exhaust system.
