What’s the history behind the 1962 Chevrolet Impala Super Sport and how many were actually made?
Chevrolet introduced the Super Sport option (RPO Z03) on the Impala for 1961, but it really took off in 1962: about 99,311 buyers ordered the package. Of those, roughly 15,019 cars came with the famous 409 V-8. The SS gave you bucket seats, special trim, and, if you ticked the right boxes, up to 409 horsepower—plenty to dominate the stop-light Grand Prix in ’62.
