This original 1966 GT Mustang hard top R code 4 speed was custom ordered by my father in the fall of 1965 from the local Ford dealership in our area. It was my father's 1st new car that he purchased on Jan. 15th, 1966, as he was beginning his 1st job that summer. The original bill of sale is shown above. The car was financed for three years by a local bank and the original title was issued to my father without liens attached on March 8, 1969. Upon my father's passing, the car was retitled in my name, but I still have this original title showing no liens on the vehicle along with the current valid clear title. This mustang served as my father's primary daily driver and then as the family vehicle until 1979 when it became the third vehicle of the family and so began a slower mileage rise on the odometer. There is no rust in the car and it was always kept in a sheltered carport or garage. There two minor incidents of body damage that took place to the car during it's time on the road. The first, when the car was less than six months old, a sheep dog ran out in front of my father damaging the right fender and it was replaced by the local Ford dealership. The 2nd incident occurred with a minor collision to the rear of the car damaging the rear bumper that had to be replaced and the trunk lid had to be repaired sometime in the early 1970s.There were numerous times my father was approached about selling the car, but he told them he was keeping it for me. When I turned 16 years old, I had saved enough money to pay for the car to be painted. It was painted back the original R code color. The original paint remains in some of the engine bay and trunk area. In 1990, the mustang served as my first car carrying me to high school a few miles from home. A classic conversion AM/FM cassette radio and speakers were added to the car but my father made sure I didn't cut on the dash or harm it's original status. I still have the AM radio that came in it from the factory. An original refurbished ford air conditioning unit was installed in the car in 1990 by a local mustang collector for us. I still have the original 4 blade fan and related parts that were removed for the installation. Mechanically the car is as close to the original condition as will find for it's age and mileage. The car had a valve cover replaced under warranty in it's first year of use. There have been a few water pumps replaced on the engine, but the car still carries it's original starter that has never been rebuilt. A clutch and throw out bearing kit were replaced in the late 1980s along with a set of mufflers around 147,000 miles. The engine had a timing chain replaced before I started driving the car with just under 150,000 miles in 1990. The engine will show a damp spot of oil just behind the ignition distributor, and according to my father, has done so since the car was two years old. It has never needed oil added between oil changes and he said, "When we have to add oil before a scheduled oil change we will fit it", but that time is still yet to come. It has always had original Motorcraft oil filters used on the engine and Texaco Havoline motor oil in the engine. I have some vintage 10W40 motor oil to use in the engine still that was purchased in 2000s. The car had the original dash pad, headliner, and seats. The floor pan carpet has been replaced once in 1990 when it was repainted. There was one minor repair made to a bottom panel in the drivers seat bottom in 1990 when I had the car painted. The only other parts that have been replaced have been basic suspension parts like shocks, some bushings a brake caliper and brake lines as needed. The car has always been road worthy and comes with vintage Virginia vintage 1966 plates. Since my father's passing, I have driven the car very little after taking over the family farming business. I've got a lifetime of memories with this car, but it has come time for me to part with her where someone can truly enjoy it. It has been driven less than 800 miles in the last eight years. I will add more information and photos as time allows and feel free to contact me with any questions you may have.
