This is a 1966 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Coupe 1300, finished in the timeless color combination of Arcona White with a contrasting black roof. And here’s what makes it truly remarkable: it has covered just 17,000 original kilometers since new, in nearly sixty years! This car remains in unrestored, near-new condition. Everything you see, touch, and hear is original, from the paint to the smallest chrome trim piece. It feels as if time has simply stood still.

Rare “Teak Edition” interior
This example is fitted with the rare “Teak” interior option, available exclusively in 1966. The warm wood tones and intricate detailing evoke the quintessential 1960s aesthetic. The car comes from its second owner, a private collector who maintained it with the utmost care. Accompanying the car is excellent documentation, including the original Pappbrief registration, the original 1965 order form, and maintenance records. In every respect, this is how a collector-grade Karmann Ghia should be preserved — authentic, complete, and full of character.

Volkswagen once described the Karmann Ghia as “A Volkswagen for people who can’t stand the sight of a Volkswagen.” A tongue-in-cheek statement, yet not without truth. While it shared much of its mechanical foundation with the beloved Beetle — the chassis, gearbox, and reliable air-cooled engine — the Karmann Ghia projected something entirely different: style, grace, and a touch of Italian flair.

That flair came courtesy of Carrozzeria Ghia, the renowned Turin-based design house responsible for the car’s elegant bodywork. Assembly took place by hand at Karmann’s coachbuilding factory in Osnabrück, Germany. The result was a car that combined German solidity with Italian passion — a union that continues to make the Karmann Ghia irresistible today.

When first introduced in 1955, the Karmann Ghia was powered by a 1200 cc engine. By 1966 — the model year of this particular example — the new 1300 engine had become standard. It delivered more power, greater smoothness, and yet retained that unmistakable air-cooled sound. Turn the key and you’ll hear it immediately: that lively hum, as if the car itself is eager to drive.
