What’s special about this listing

Decoding the VIN and cowl tag this car began its life at the Norwood GM factory in the first week of December 1967. It is a 1967 Chevrolet Camaro V8 Custom Coupe with the Rally Sport Package(RS). Originally it was finished in Tahoe Turquoise with a Black vinyl top and the matching Turquoise Strato Buckets.

I purchased the car for my dealership back in 2021 as team project. I got it through a friend who had acquired it that same year then could not afford the project. What we received was a rolling race chassis with no motor, and unknown entities in the transmission and differential. We focused on the drivetrain and chassis not cosmetics and I will detail the build next.

We wanted to keep things as simple as we could looking for both performance and reliability. For the motor we began with a proven Chevrolet Performance 350/290, PN19355658, as this was our least costly option to get the strength of 4 bolt mains. Next we went inside and replaced the cam with a Competition Cams Xtreme Energy, roller lifters and timing gears/chain set. Wanting increased flow we pulled the heads and replaced them with Chevrolet Performance Vortec Heads, PN 19331470. Again, this gave us the best bang for our buck plus we wanted to stick with cast iron to match the block. We sent the Vortec heads out for machining to get max flow then fitted them with Chevrolet Performance Roller Rockers. Keeping things looking tidy are Chevrolet Performance Aluminum Competition Valve Covers We also added a Chevrolet Performance Eliminator Vortec Intake fitted with a Holley Brawler 750CFM carb. A Performance World distributor and MSD ignition Controller provide the spark. For exhaust we went with Schoenfeld Drag Street Class Headers and custom dumps.Small touches abound including a Chevrolet Performance High Torque Mini Starter and ProForm electric water pump. The transmission needed replacing so we installed a ATI Performance products PROGlide fitted with a TCI 3000 stall torque converter. After the Line Lock proved not enough for a good launch we also installed a transmission brake to get the RPM needed off the line. A TCI Diablo shifter controls all three systems and gets the power to the custom, shortened Dana 60 rear diff fitted with a new 4.88 ring and pinion set from Richmond Gear.

Going fast makes stopping quick and steering straight critical. The chassis came with older, and functional, CentreLine racing wheels which we fitted with new M/T tires. 26.0/4.0-15 tires are up front and 32.0/15-15 are in the back. Frankly, I would recommend a shorter tire to get the most of what the car is capable of. At least a 31.0/13-15 or maybe a 29.5/13.5-15. We also installed QA1 drag race control arms, a Unisteer steering shaft kit and rack & pinion to keep it under control. Lastly, Wilwood front brakes provide modern stopping power when you get off the throttle.

The car is currently painted a metallic white which is covered by a matte black wrap and the orange flames. It is tubbed and has a roll cage. The value of the parts alone that went into the drivetrain is over $20K USD and doesn't include any labour, the tires and other smaller sundry items.

A few other details, the car did pass NHRA tech the last time we had it at the track in Edmonton. It has had less than ten track days though over the 2022, 2023 and 2024 seasons. it was not raced last year as I had retired from the automotive business and the car came with me.

The car is located about 40 miles outside of Calgary, Alberta and I can arrange to get it to the Montana border if that is helpful.
