Well, a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 can be described as a ‘museum piece’ anyway, but in this case it is actually a car that has been in a museum for decades. A top-restored Mustang in beautiful condition and special color. Before we continue about this car, first a small piece of history, because it is special, this GT500.

In the mid-1960s, Ford and Shelby are busy building fierce and fast sports cars together. The GT350 has been in production for some time when the GT500 is added to the line-up in 1967. The GT500 is for many the holy grail when it comes to the classic Ford Mustang. Shelby spoons a large 7-liter V8 engine into the Mustang Fastback, 428 cubic inches in American terms. Two aluminum ‘four barrel’ CFM Holley carburettors must ensure that the enormous eight-cylinder is supplied with enough fuel. The result is a hefty 355 hp at 5,400 rpm and a torque of 569 Nm at 3,200 rpm. Don’t forget: we are talking about 1968, over 55 years ago!
In addition to the brutal appearance of the wheels, stickers and air intakes, the GT500 has also been made lighter by making sheet metal parts such as the front, hood, rear panel, trunk lid and air intakes of fiberglass. All in all, it makes for an icon among American sports cars.

The truly beautifully restored example that you see here is one that has been provided with a very popular color, namely Acapulco Blue. The car looks great and the condition does not detract from that: the Shelby has been thoroughly restored. The car was brought back to the last detail as it left the factory. Not only the things that the eye sees, but certainly also all technical matters and parts that are hidden from view.

The authenticity of this car is evident from the available MartiAutoWorks Report, in which all information about this car can be found. We read that the car was ordered on December 20, 1967 and rolled off the production line on January 8. Those were delivery times! The car is equipped with a number of highly sought-after options, which we mention in the original language for the atmosphere, in Dutch there is often less of the charm: Extra Cooling Package, Visibility Group, Wheel Lip Moldings, Power Steering, Power Front Disc Brakes, Tilt-Away Steering Column, AM Radio, Interior Decor Group, Tachometer and Trip Odometer.

We can summarize the condition of the car quite briefly: wow! The bodywork is very neat, the chrome is neat and the paintwork is in optimum condition. The interior also meets all those descriptions. What a picture!

Finally, of course, the technology, with the colossal V8 as the crown jewel. The technology may be over 55 years old: due to a complete overhaul and fantastic care in the past, it is a matter of turning the key and being treated to fantastic music immediately. No doubting starter motor, no coughing and sputtering while coming to life: immediately a goosebumps-inducing sound.
Driving the GT500 is the same story, what an experience, what a sound, what an acceleration. The whole car also feels like new while driving, the technology leading for the overall impression.

We dare to say that a Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 in this composition and condition is a rarity!
