About this 1968 Ford Thunderbird

VIN: 8Y83N130394

This 1968 T-Bird was purchased through Bring a Trailer about a year ago.

After he got it home and drove it a bit, it wasn't really what he was looking for.

He figured the 429 4 bbl., C6 3 speed AT and true dual exhaust, with glass pack type mufflers, would give the Big Bird some get up and go .. He was hoping for a luxury muscle car.

However, despite the nearly 400 hp, the stock 2:90 gears and almost 4500 lbs of car means this car can eventually go rather fast, but it isn't "street-light quick".

The car was a "stripped" version too, no AC, no power windows or power seats .. just power disc brakes (F) and drums (R) and power steering. Everything else you adjust by hand.

All that he's done to the car in his time of ownership is a tune/oil change and an alignment.

After enjoying her for the last year, but only adding about 150 miles to the odometer, he's decided to move her on to a new home.
The odometer reads 69692, original miles.

The engine starts right up and has a very nice rumble.

The flip up headlights work, the blinkers work, and the gauges work, as do the wipers, horn and AM radio. The interior lights do not work, however, they may just needs bulbs, as several packages of new bulbs came with the car (along with several other bits, seen in the photos).

Under the hood is presentable but not rusty/crusty, it could be detailed to look quite a bit better.

The interior is definitely this cars strongest point. Aside from some wear on the gauge bezels, the interior is beautiful, including the famous sofa like wrap around rear seat. The split back bench seat can work almost as two buckets or with the armrest up, the car can accommodate 6 70's era adults. Excellent condition inside.

The trunk is also in very good condition, some of the rubber mat has come detached but no rust/rot back there.

The car came out of Chicago in Ford Yellow paint. At some point under previous ownership it was repainted in a similar shade of yellow. Unfortunately, the car wasn't stripped to bare metal or even primed, the original yellow was just scuffed and the new paint applied over it. Lack of show quality prep means that upon very close inspection one can see dust in the paint.

There are also some areas of peeling paint and surface rust showing through on the lower, rear most "rockers", behind the wheels.

The underside is in very good condition with only minor surface corrosion here and there, it was undercoated by a previous owner.

The tires are in great condition, there are still nubs on them. The car starts easily, runs very nicely and drives like a "luxo-cruiser". Blinkers work, brakes are nice and firm and stop the

4500 lb. car easily.

If you're looking for a great entry level T-Bird (and they only made 9900 of the hard-tops in 68) for cruising around, taking to cruise nights, etc. this is your car.

If you're looking for something to take to the Thunderbird Club judged shows, she'll need some work.

With #2 cars in the $20,000 range and #4 cars just around $11,000, $14,000 is the asking price.
