About this 1968 Pontiac Tempest Custom

VIN: 235378P221987

1968 Tempest Custom. Meridian Turquoise (K) with Dark Aqua Interior (214) and Black Vinyl Top (2). Frame off build/restoration. 2022 GTOAA Nationals Gold Modified, 2019 POCI Nationals Gold Modified. Less than 49,000 original miles and less than 500 miles on build. I have all receipts and information on modifications/installations as well as original build sheet.

Engine: 1971 Pontiac 455 bored out .060 (sonic checked to insure plenty of wall thickness), 4.5” forged crank (4340 forged), Eagle 6.7” forged H-Beam rods with ARP 2000 bolts, Ross forged custom pistons with Line-to-line coating, Total seal rings with top ring gapless, Melling High-volume oil pump @ 70 PSI, Canton oil pan, Meziere forged flex plate, ATI super damper, Sims performance double roller timing chain/gear set with needle bearings front and rear, Comp Cams mechanical roller camshaft. The block has Butler Performance lifter bore bracing for added strength and a Butler aluminum valley pan. The engine is set up with two-bolt mains (ARP studs) because max power occurs at 5,800 RPM with 32 degrees of total timing keeping the RPM under the 2 bolt mains capacity and not stressing the lower end much. Compression ratio is about 10.5:1 making this a good pump gas engine. Engine made around 500 HP and 500 Torque to rear wheels on chassis dyno. I have dyno sheets for both engine dyno and chassis dyno.

Heads: Kauffman Racing Equipment Hi-Ports with SS valves, roller rockers, and 3/8” Trend push rods. These heads flow with a Northwind intake a maximum of 332 CFM @ .750 lift (have graph sheet). ARP studs are used.

Transmission: TH400 with automatic valve body, shift kit, deep pan, Lokar dip stick, B&M super cooler, 3,200 to 3,500 Continental converter (10” set up on the tighter side for good street running), and a Hurst Pro-Matic floor shifter.

Induction: Holley 4150 HP1000 from Pro Systems, Aeromotive 20 gallon stock fuel tank with in-tank pump, Aeromotive return regulator, Aeromotive 100 and 10 micron fuel filters, and AeroQuip Starlite black flexible fuel line.

Ignition: MSD 6AL CD box (black), MSD HVC-2 coil, MSD 8563 Pro-Billet distributor (locked out timing), MSD Starter Saver (for locked out timing), and Moroso plug wires.

Cooling: Entropy direct fit aluminum radiator with 2 rows of 1-1/2” tubes, Entropy dual 16” fans with 2-speed fan controller (can be set up with EFI), Meziere electric water pump, and Hi-Flow 160 degree thermostat. There are no cooling issues; this set up works well.

Exhaust: Doug’s round port 1-7/8” ceramic coated headers with weld-in bungs both sides, Dynomax 3” X-pipe, Dynomax super turbo mufflers, and 3” exit pipes tucked up high exiting just under the rear bumper.

Suspension: SSBC front dual piston disc brakes in black , dual 7” power brake booster with separate Leeds automotive vane style electric vacuum pump, Right Stuff rear disc brakes (single piston), QA1 front coil over single adjustable shocks, large front sway bar, QA1 rear single adjustable shocks (not coil over), GM 12-bolt rear end housing with 3:55 Eaton posi, aluminum performance rear cover, heavy duty 31 spline bolt-in axles (C-clips eliminated), 4” steel drive shaft with safety loop, BMR anti roll bar (bolts to the under body not the lower control arms), Adjustable upper control arms, tubular lower control arms all installed with polyurethane bushings. A new fast ratio (16:1) manual steering gearbox with new rag joint installed.

Wheels/Tires: Front-M/T Sportsman S/R 26 x 8 R15 on 15” Weld Prostars. Rear-M/T ET Street SS P275 60R15 on Weld Prostars Also has second set of same size wheels correctly color matched to car with poverty caps for sleeper look.

Electrical: MSD C-130 style 160 Amp 1-wire alternator, Rocker switches in dash, additional electrical capacity for accessories, halogen low beam headlamps, led rear taillights, and Kenwood HD CD player radio with new front and rear speakers.

Paint/Body: Concours winning condition, chassis finished as well as body/interior. Correct original colors. All new weatherstrips, trim in excellent condition, etc.
