About this 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu

VIN: 136370B146365

1970 CHEVROLET CHEVELLE SS – LS6

Chevrolet launched the midsize Chevelle in 1964, and it quickly became a strong seller. From the start, the lineup included a Super Sport, or SS, model equipped initially with a 327-cubic-inch V-8. However, the Chevelle reached its muscle-car peak in 1970 with the debut of the LS6 Turbojet 454 V-8. This big-block powerhouse was factory-rated at 450 horsepower at 5,600 rpm and 500 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm—figures widely regarded as among the highest of the muscle-car era. Even so, only about 4,475 customers selected the $263.30 LS6 option, representing well under 10 percent of total 1970 Chevelle SS production, according to various estimates.
The 1970 model year is widely regarded as the finest and most desirable of the Chevelle lineage. With its muscular body styling, aggressive front fascia, domed hood, and unmistakable SS presence, the redesigned 1970 Chevelle perfectly captured the spirit of the era. Within that already elite hierarchy, the SS 454 LS6 sits at the top. Of the limited number produced, just 1,923 cars were built with the LS6 engine and Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 automatic transmission (CRR code), making this configuration especially rare and sought after by serious collectors.
Purchased new from Rosenthal Chevrolet Co., Arlington, VA, according to an accompanying build sheet. It is finished in Champagne Gold with a Medium Gold River interior featuring front and rear bench seats with Metallic Gold cloth inserts. Presented in excellent condition, the car exhibits the level of fit, finish, detailing, and authenticity expected of a top-tier collector-grade automobile, and it is equipped from the factory with tinted glass, a vinyl roof, special performance front and rear suspension, power brakes with front discs, power steering, TH400 three-speed automatic transmission, heavy-duty battery, Firestone Wide Oval F70X14 white-letter tires, push-button radio, and windshield antenna, among other features. It is accompanied by two original build sheets that are partially damaged, a spare tire, a jack, and an owner’s manual.
Documented, rare, and representing the very best of Chevrolet’s high-performance heritage, this 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 is more than a muscle car — it is a centerpiece-level collector automobile and one of the definitive American performance cars of the 20th century.
