About this 1970 International Harvester Scout 800A

VIN: 782887G417661

Details

This custom-built 1970 International Scout 800A features a transplanted 350ci LS1 V8 engine paired with an automatic transmission. This custom build stands out from its counterparts in orange paint over brown plaid upholstery. Far from stock, this truck is equipped with enough modern features to make it enjoyable in 2024.

In addition to the swapped engine, the owner has installed a Lokar shifter, large roll bar, custom front bumper as well as a converted single gas tank. Amenities include a modern stereo system, Autometer gauges, and a new interior. This Scout also comes with a removable top, which is painted in white. The BFGoodrich tires are in good condition and ready to tackle all terrain in this 4WD truck.

The current owner purchased the Scout from Michigan in 2007. In 2010, the truck underwent an engine transplant and subsequent restoration, including paint and interior work and the installation of other features like the roll bar. The rear seats are removable and can be re-configured in 2 different positions.

Third-party photos and inspection were performed to give potential buyers as much information on the truck's condition. Currently the odometer shows 2,518 miles which reflects the mileage after the engine swap, but the true mileage is unknown. The removable top and two sets of keys are included in the sale of the vehicle.

This International Scout is available in Elkhorn, Wisconsin as a Premium Listing on CLASSIC.COM and being sold by Robert Lewis.

About the model

The Scout 800 series replaced the Scout 80 in late 1965. These models had many improvements in comfort and design, including bucket seats, better instrumentation and heating systems, and an updated dashboard. From 1966 to 1968, the base model 800 was offered with an optional 196 four-cylinder or 232 inline-six. Beginning in March 1967, a 266 ci V8 engine was also offered. November 1968 saw the introduction of the 800A, which replaced the 800. Improvements included more creature-comfort options, a slightly different front-end treatment, drivetrain upgrades, and the options of a 196 four-cylinder, 232 six-cylinder, 266 V8, or 304 V8. The inline-six was only offered for a short period in early 1969. The last of the 800 series was the 800B, available for less than eight months, from August 1970 until March 1971, before it was replaced with the Scout II.
