1970 Volvo P1800E ID # 45131529 sold 1/19/2026
A rare opportunity to own an original rust free classic 1970 Volvo P1800E. I purchased this appreciating vehicle in So Cal years back from an elderly gentleman that had lost his driver's license due to age. As a result, it had been stored for several years, reasoning its low 79,000 mileage. During my ownership, I adjusted the valves, flushed the fuel system, recorred the radiator, replaced the water pump, tandem brake master cylinder, engine and differential oil fluids, installed new injector seals, an EZ oil drain valve, upgraded to rotary A/C compressor with W135 freon, changed coil, spark plugs and wires, battery, shock absorbers, differential rebound straps and had the transmission overhauled while adding a new clutch, pressure plate, turned flywheel, throw-out bearing and gear shift bushing.
In the interior I added an Alpine Bluetooth capable CD unit, wide angle rear view mirror, fire extinguisher, cup holder, custom chrome gearshift knob, voltmeter and custom “COCO” front sisal floor mats, fitted trunk rubber mat, hood & trunk weatherstripping, car cover, “collectible” cast aluminum air intake grille and “Volvo” mudflaps. The cabin is further appointed with an Alpine radio, heater, crank-operated windows, woodgrain dashboard trim, Dashnmat cover and factory A/C unit. The three-spoke steering wheel fronts Smiths instrumentation, including a 7k-rpm tachometer, a 120-mph speedometer, and gauges for oil, coolant temperature and added voltmeter. An analog clock and gauges for fuel level and oil pressure reside in the center of the dashboard.a cabin heater, The six-digit mechanical odometer shows a true 79K miles. Power provided with the improved B20E 2 0-liter 5 main bearing engine featuring Bosch D-Jetronic fuel injection and factory rated at 130 horsepower and 130 lb-ft of torque. The power is sent to the rear wheels by a bullet proof inline-four, mated to a four-speed manual transmission with electric overdrive which provides a 5th gear.
Exterior equipment includes, four-wheel disc brakes and aftermarket IPD front & rear sway bars with poly bushings. The black-finished 15″ magnesium wheels feature bright accents trim rings and are mounted with 195/65 tires. The tires are like new but dated. Other additional details include a driver-side mirror, tilt-out vent windows, mudflaps and collectible cast air intake grille. The exhaust system was replaced under previous ownership. Bumper chrome is unmarred and shiny but the right rear quarter panel paint mismatch reveals previous repair, The front grille surround has a small repairable dent. The paint is worn in places due to over polishing and shows evidence of minor touchups.
I was torn with the decision of having it repainted but considered its original exterior and interior condition would be more impressive to a collector. I am sadly selling as, at my age of 90, I have used it less, as I am no longer flexibly comfortable entering and exiting the car’s tight entry space and absence of modern power steering.
