Restored this beautiful DT-1 last summer. This was a frame up restoration, starting with powder coating the frame and swingarm. In the process, certain parts had to be scrapped due to their poor condition. The parts that have been replaced are the fork stanchions, rear shocks, rims, spokes, tires, wheel bearings, handlebars, grips, seat foam, seat cover, all cables, battery, tank badges, clutch plates, air boot from airbox to carb. It is otherwise, all original. Cylinder was on original bore, but had to be bored to 2nd over, due to wear. Brake pads are original and well within specification, which, between this and the fact that the cylinder was on original bore, suggests the odometer is true. Head light and tail light work, but the front tail light switch and the horn are not working. My mechanic said he got the horn to work for him. Speedo and tach bulbs and high beam indicator bulb have been replaced and all work. Engine runs perfectly. The gas tank is in good condition, but is not perfect by any means, as you can see in the pictures. I was able to source a reproduction frame badge from a DT restoration guy back east, complete with actual VIN number.
I love this piece of motorcycle history, and I love how it turned out! But after owning it for a year, I realize that having a classic isn't the most practical thing. I don't have enough space to keep it, and there are other motorcycles calling my name. I put a lot of money and sweat equity into it, and unfortunately realize that I'm not going to profit from my efforts. I just want it to find a good home where it can be fully appreciated.
