FOR SALE: 1976 Checker Marathon (taxi cab!). I purchased it around 1999-2000 from a private owner at Ford Ord, CA - I believe I am the second (or possibly third) owner. It was not used as an actual taxi cab. I drove it on weekends and occasionally around the Bay Area in the 2000s, after that it was mostly sitting in a garage (we’d start the engine once a week to keep the battery going). It has been PNO and not driven for the last 10 years or so, but still starts up.
The odometer reads 51,262 miles (you’ll see from the picture that the odometer doesn’t have a hundred thousand space). Straight six automatic engine. I remember getting a new alternator soon after I purchased it, and it has had a few different batteries. The original gas cap was replaced, and you’ll notice the radio antenna has snapped off. Parts of the side trim and “Marathon” lettering have come off (see pictures), the rearview mirror became unstuck from the windshield, the driver door arm rest cushioning is coming out (as well as some trim around the windows and doors), and the ease of rolling up/down the windows and the door locks could use some work. Lights and windshield wipers work, but the radio, A/C and heat do not. Other than that, in good condition!
HUGE back seat, and super fun to cruise around in. I’d love to sell it to someone who loves cars and wants to fix it up! Sold as is. Throwing in for free the "Checker" roof light (which is not connected). Please ask any questions, and come see it in person in Menlo Park. You’ll be in charge of towing it out. Cash, cashier’s check and bill of sale. Thanks! John.
