2 Owner, 1980 Chevy Monte Carlo
This Monte Carlo was purchased brand new in 1980 by Ruth Huff from Chic Miller Chevrolet in New Britain, CT.
Ruth worked for Joe's dad as a caretaker, because unfortunately Joe's mom had passed away and his dad needed someone to help him take care of his son.
Ruth was a real car gal and bought several new cars while caring for Joe.
When she passed away and Joe was just in his early 20's, she gave them all to Joe.
The 1980 Monte Carlo is one of them.
Being a car gal, she opted for the only V8 available in 1980 in a Monte, the 5.0L-305 WITH the 4 BBL!.
She also went with the landau top, Air Conditioning, PS, Power disc brakes, the gauge package, side mirrors, limited slip rear diff , the deluxe stainless side trim, white wall tires with the wire wheel hub caps, tinted windows, intermittent wipers, High intensity head lights, electric rear window defogger and topped everything off in Mid Camel Metallic (Metallic Brown) and light Camel vinyl interior.
This one was her daily driver but she tried not to take it out in the winter from what I'm told. She always kept it in the garage and it was very well maintained.
When Joe got the car, he drove it less than she did and handled most of the maintenance himself as, growing up with Ruth, he was a car guy too.
Joe passed away just about a year ago and his cousin and executor of the estate is now selling the cars and a bunch of tools.
Turn the key and the V8 fires right up, she runs strong but one can hear the light complaint of an alternator bearing starting to go, the volt meter bounces between 10 and 13 volts. There is a new exhaust that includes the cat and back from there. The engine is a little dirty/grimy with 116,000 miles on it, but as an SBC, she just runs and runs and if cared for, probably will until 216 or more.
The body is very straight, there are several small blemishes in the paint on both sides but at even ten feet the deep brown metallic paint and the light camel landau, really look very nice. The trunk and hood show some staining from being outside the last few months as the car had to be pulled from it's offsite storage, this will clean up to a nice shine once cut and buffed.
The one major drawback to the body is the section of rust in the non-structural rocker in front of the driver door. The passenger side has a dent in the same spot. These can't be seen when standing looking at the car even at 5 feet.
The interior is also in very good condition with some minor scratches in the plastic around the doors and there is wear on the driver side of the split bench seat.
The dash though is near perfect.
All the lights work, the wipers, the horn, interior lights, all the gauges and even the clock. The heat blows warm but the AC will need a recharge.
She can use a little work but overall, with replacement of the aforementioned alternator, she can be enjoyed right out of the box.
Slowly go through and fix the little things. While the current market wouldn't make a restoration of any kind feasible, tweaking her just enough and keeping it all original (we have the original window sticker and all the original purchase receipts - she traded in a 73 Buick) would be the way to go. There are a lot of folks who remember these and it would be a hit at the local cars and coffees, cruise nights, etc.
Asking price is $8000
