This 29,189-mile, single-family owned car is a wonderful example of an all-original 1985 Mercedes-Benz 500SEL, built in an era when Mercedes valued engineering and build quality above all else. Since the late 1980s, it has been kept in a climate-controlled garage and rarely driven during New England winters. As a result, the car has zero rust.

If you’re familiar with these cars, it drives exactly as you’d expect a 500SEL with just 29K miles to drive, smooth, tight, and remarkably refined. If you’re new to Mercedes’ mid-80s flagship sedan, this was German engineering at its peak: a car designed to soak up potholes and rough pavement while still giving the driver a confident, connected feel.

The interior is equally impressive, finished in palomino leather and accented with polished mahogany trim. Everything presents beautifully, right down to the netting behind the front seats. Both the front seats and rear bench are heated and power-adjustable, and the leather remains exceptionally clean with no major creases or wear, making it easy to appreciate the craftsmanship and stitching.

The vehicle history shows that the car was listed and marked sold on a Bring a Trailer auction in July 2025. However, that sale fell through as the buyer did not complete the purchase. Bring a Trailer does not remove post-auction fall-through results, so the listing remains visible in the history, but rest assured the car did not actually sell and has remained with me.

It would not take much to bring this 500SEL to prize-winning show quality, but it is also an ideal long-range luxury cruiser exactly as it sits. This is the kind of car that leaves both driver and passengers more relaxed at the end of the trip than when they started.
