1987 Audi 4000 CS quattro.
This is a quality classic Audi of the era. It has been taken care of, and it shows in the pictures. Runs very smooth and transmission shifts great. These cars have very deep roots in 80s Audi Rally Racing Group A and Group B. Vacuum actuated mechanical locking center and rear differential that engage and disengage as engineered.
The 4000 quattro is a very light car at around 2800 lbs for an AWD sedan. The USA 4000 CS quattro is unique in it was the premium trim package (top optioned vehicle) and only came with the 2.2 NA 5 cylinder, 5 speed manual, 4-wheel disc brakes with larger front brakes. There were very few 4000 (Audi B2 type 85) brought into the US from 1980 to 1987 and a small portion of those were quattro from 1984 to 1987. This trim CS was only made for 2 years 1986 and 1987. 1987 was one of the lowest production years for all 4000 models as well making this one extremely unique. There is still the option package and build sticker on the inner trunk lid as seen in listing photo.
This one has the rare charcoal quattro script Sport seats which are in amazing shape and exterior in Alpine White and mostly all original paint. No cracks in the dash anywhere. Looks like the driver front fender was painted at some point and I sprayed the driver's door with 2k clear to make paint more uniform from drivers front to the rest of the car. Most of the car from what I can tell is all original with the exception of removing the door side moldings which were warping, cat back exhaust, aftermarket radio, rear taillight assembly (converted V8 all red quattro taillight assembly very rare) and the aftermarket German wheels which are 17 inch supporting 205/45r17 tires.
I have performed a bunch of maintenance (using OEM or German parts) to include full tune up, new belts, new distributor vac advance canister, braided vacuum lines, new OEM fuel pump and fuel filter, removed and cleaned all window switches (fully functional). New passenger front CV axle. New Passenger front upper strut mount and bushing. Comes with 3 new upper mounts and bushings to do the rest when needed. Heat blows hot and AC works great and is nice and cold (converted to R134a). AC compressor is a little noisy but, works fine and holds pressure. All lights and signals work. Clutch engages nice and smooth.
To be done still and leaving to the next owner is to get the parking brake adjusted (won't hold the car when set, cable looks new, moves free and rear caliper arms move free) and comes with new rear caliper seals to rebuild. Cruise control is not engaging and moonroof could use a new seal but works fine and does not leak. This car is not perfect but, is an excellent survivor and does not leak a drop on the ground or use any fluids.
Excellent driver or for full restoration as there is no rust. Miles will slowly go up as I drive it locally to keep it in good running order. I have original owner's manual. It says Brumos Atlanta. Not sure if it was from there or not originally. It's a thrill to drive and amazing conversation piece anywhere you go. Crowds gather around it at car shows.
*Car comes with a Audi OEM windshield (no damage) from the period (impossible to find and cost a fortune).
