The Ferrari Mondial Coupe was revised for the 1989 model year and designated “T” in the name to signify the transverse transmission layout to the new longitudinal mid-mounted 3.4L V8. The all-new 90-degree, dual overhead cam motor had 4-valves per cylinder, dry sump lubrication, a 10:4:1 compression ratio, and put out 300hp which was the same for the 348 model. The Mondial was unique in its class for being a 2+2, mid-engine, Grand Touring model and was offered in both Coupe and Cabriolet versions. The T Coupe is extremely rare as only 43 would be sold in the USA, according to Ferrarichat online forum, that number was significant in that each US dealer received only one coupe each to sell. The Mondial T also premiered a new electronically adjustable suspension that could be set to “hard or soft”. Other improvements to the T model were a modernized interior design, ellipsoid beam rectangular pop-up headlamps, rear seats that could be folded flat to create a luggage storage shelf, and the front and rear track were widened.
This Mondial T Coupe was built in July of 1989 and sold new by Classic Ferrari Inc of Richardson TX on April 12, 1990 to a Mr. Crowder of Plano, TX. The car is finished in the classic Rosso Corsa over Tan Leather and has been serviced by Ferrari dealers and specialists during its various ownership. The first 1200 miles service (done 06/13/1990) and 7500 mile service (done 03/24/1992) were both performed by Classic Ferrari while in Texas. The 15k mile service was done 07/29/96 by Lake Forest Sportscars of Illinois who also performed first timing belt service done at 20k miles on 03/27/04. The 2nd major service/timing belt change was done on 07/9/19 at 38,473 miles by Ferrari of Salt Lake City in Utah. In November of 2024 at 40,326 miles, extensive servicing to the tune of $9865 was carried out by Patrick Otis Company of Berkley, CA and included; timing belts, oil change, coolant flush, fuel filters, new fuel pressure regulators, replace both fuel pumps, and a new battery was fitted. New Continental Extreme Contact DWS tires were also installed while the car was being serviced. The Alternator, ignition coils, and O2 sensors were replaced in 2021. This Mondial also has a Tubi exhaust system fitted for better performance and a deeper sound which is the trusted brand for Ferrari owners. There is a later Alpine CD stereo fitted in the cabin and the car is wired for a radar detector.
Included with the car are its original owner’s books with leather folio, tool kit, car cover, Mondial T information book by DeAgostini, miscellaneous spare parts, and 1 set of keys. The car is believed to retain its original Rosso Corsa paintwork based on paint meter readings. Aside from some minor wear to the driver seat bolster, the interior is in excellent condition showing very well with the leather still feeling supple and smelling like new. All glass is factory original and in good shape. Known flaws are that the sunroof is not functional, the trunk electric release does not work but can be released manually and the AC system is in need of a recharge. The car drives excellent with a great sound, shifts well up/down in all gears, and all lamps, signals, wipers, horn, fans, and suspension operates normally. This is a great opportunity to purchase a low-production Ferrari that can be enjoyed as a driver or can be restored/improved and kept in a collection for future appreciation.
