1990 Ferrari 3.4L Mondial t Cabriolet
VIN: ZFFFK33A3L0087893
Nero (black) with Tan Leather
Ferrari introduced the 3.2 Mondial during 1980, as a replacement for the controversial 308 GT4. In 1989, the Mondial underwent its fourth, final and most radical update: the Mondial t. Although the model was coming towards the end of its life, Ferrari invested heavily in this final iteration. This was due to the fact that the big 412i had just been discontinued which meant, for the next few years, the Mondial t would be the firm’s only offering with more that two seats. The most technically advanced and desirable of the open Mondial models, the "t" Cabriolet employed the same longitudinally-mounted 3.4L 8-cylinder engine used in the 348, while the gated 5-speed transaxle was positioned transversely. This change enabled Ferrari to mount the engine 13cm lower in the chassis which resulted in better weight distribution and improved handling. Â
In addition to the engine displacement increase from 3.2 to 3.4-litres, power steering and electronically adjustable dampers were also added while a number of cosmetic changes freshened up the design.
The Mondial t was introduced at the 1989 Geneva Motor Show and was offered in Coupe and Cabriolet body styles. It joined a Ferrari line up that included the Flat 12-engined Testarossa and the limited production F40 which ran a twin turbocharged V8.
With just four conscientious owners and 38,500 miles from new, this particular example is fresh out of a $20,000+ comprehensive "major" timing belt service (and much more). A diligently kelp paperwork file from new tells us that this 3.4L Mondial t has always been a well-cared for Ferrari.Â

Today, the condition of the exterior and interior are in keeping with excellent driver cosmetic standards, a good "number 2". The paint has excellent gloss and coverage, but has been touched up in selected areas. All body panes are laser straight. The top is in excellent condition. The upholstery is original throughout, and while some age and wear is evident, there are no significant flaws to detract from the presentation. Both the engine bay and "frunk" compartment are detailed to a high level, as is the underside. The road wheels are virtually unmarked. Â
On the open road this must be the finest Mondial t we have experienced to-date. It is powerful, and shifts correctly. There are no lights on the dash, nor leaks of any significance. The radio, and electronic buttons for trunk and frunk access are non-operational, but the manual T-handle pull-cables work correctly. It should be noted, particularly for California residents, that an aftermarket catalytic converter delete exhaust system is fitted (so it is currently non smog compliant), although the original exhaust, cats, and O2 sensors are included in the sale.
The sale includes a clean carfax, records from new, the original manual pack with VIN-matching warranty card, tools with leather holder, jack with bag and bulb pack, a large fold-out color Mondial sales brochure, and the stock exhaust complete with cats.
