About this 1992 Pontiac Grand Prix STE

VIN: 1G2WT54X6NF236781

This 1992 Grand Prix STE is finished in Mitsubishi UV Blue over anthracite and is powered by the GM corporate 3.4L DOHC V6 making 210 factory HP, paired with the rare M284 West German Getrag 5 speed manual. 57 units were built in 1992 with this combination. Equipment includes 18” aftermarket wheels shod in P245/40ZR18 Toyo Proxes4 tires, air conditioning, fog lamps, OEM Lear Sieglar 14 way power leather seats with triple lumbar and individual thigh bolsters, power windows, locks and moonroof. OEM Delco premium stereo with twin factory subwoofers and bass control in driver's door, CD with graphic equalizer & Nakamichi front speakers. Vehicle is straight and was never in a collision, no rust repair was ever performed and no rust is evident. Brand new headlamp housings and an OEM NOS center STE lampbar with correct STE cloisonne have been fitted in anticipation of the sale. LEDs have ben fitted in the fog lamps positions on the centre bar.

The cabin is upholstered in anthracite leather. Amenities include power accessories, air conditioning, cruise control and door mounted seatbelts per then-current DOT code. The original Delco CD player with equalizer, steering wheel controls and driver's-door mounted bass control is fitted and fully functional. Aftermarket Nakamichi 5.25 separates have replaced the OE front speakers. A wear-through area appears on the driver's seat leather on the outer bolster, and some of the seat cushion stitching is loosened, the rest of the seats present as new. The driver's rear window is non-functional and the others are slow to move up and down. Power locks are functional but keyless remote is not. The sunroof was functional on opening but only worked one time out of three or four on closing, so a new OEM NOS power sunroof switch has been fitted in anticipation of the sale. The sunroof functions correctly now. The interior is all original, including dash pad and headliner.
A four-spoke steering wheel frames a tachometer, speedometer, oil pressure, water temperature, voltmeter and fuel gauge. The GM DIC ( Driver's Information Centre ) in the centre console, with compass, vehicle systems test, average and instant MPG and calendar is fitted and functional. The display is blue vacuum fluorescent and all segments are functional. 188k miles are shown on the six digit mechanical odometer, and this is true mileage, 106k having been added by the seller. An aftermarket AutoMeter tach with shift lamp is fitted to the upper left dash. A leather steering wheel wrap is fitted, as the OE wheel rim finish was degrading, and the shift knob has been replaced with a Momo knob in yellow leather with matching hand-stitched leather shift boot.

The 3400cc DOHC GM engine sourced from Chevrolet is fitted to a rare Getrag / Hydramatic M284 5 speed transverse manual transmission with heavy duty clutch. The 3400 was factory rated at 210HP and 215 FT / Lbs torque but after dyno tuning the car laid down 221 wheel horsepower on a WinPEP dynojet running 104 octane Sunoco Racing fuel. Premium pump fuel ( 93 Octane ) is required for smooth operation and octane booster is recommended ( 98 to 102 ). The engine and heavy-duty M284 Getrag / HydraMatic 5-speed transmission are factory-sealed and original to the vehicle ( numbers-matching ). The clutch has less than 975 miles and was fitted by Jim Jenkins Transmissions in August 2015, at a cost of $1322.53. The timing belt was changed along with all idler pulleys and tensioner, in anticipation of sale, along with the turn signal switch, for a total of $2400.00, and has less than 100 miles on. The exhaust is cracked at the Y-Pipe and the A/C is functional but requires a Freon refill. Currently the compressor does not engage due to A/C system low pressure switch activation. An on-board battery tender system is fitted with a 120vAC plug hidden behind the right headlamp assembly.

Items replaced during present owner's tenure were O-Ring cap seal under vertical engine oil pump driveshaft, intake manifold gaskets and vacuum hoses ( all ), & fuel injector O-Rings.
Birotti cross drilled and slotted front rotors, front and rear calipers & pads, front flexible brake hoses, front and rear struts, front Eibach 1.5” lowering springs, front ball joints and upper strut mounts, both half-shafts, front stabilizer bar bushings, steering rack w/ tie rods, power steering pump, alt, water pump, radiator hoses, spark plugs and wires, spark control module, exhaust with Flowmaster 40 twin-chamber mufflers and stainless steel twin tips. A new 7/8” rear stabilizer bar was fitted and the owner notes it sometimes makes a “knock” sound while traversing ramped driveways at an angle. The rear floor and trunk area were fitted with between two and five layers of Dynamat sound insulation and the ECU EEPROM was replaced with a custom-burned chip developed on a dyno by a professional tuner using a wide-band A/F monitor and laptop computer. Many OE parts including the original 16" wheels are included.
