I first met this Audi S4 when the original owner brought it in to the repair shop I owned, with 8500 miles on the odometer in 1994, with a no crank issue. we diagnosed the original battery as faulty and replaced it. We put the old battery in the trunk so he could take it back to the selling dealer which was 100 miles away and get credit for it. Since the dealer was so far away, we saw this car on a regular basis until he passed away and is wife offered it to me to buy in 2006.
I owned Prescott Import Car Service for about 35 years. We performed service and repair for most all European and Asian cars and were also a Volkswagen Authorized Service dealer.
So I used the Audi to commute to and from work approximately 30 or 35 miles a day for many years. All the repairs and maintenance were performed in my shop generally by my technicians, though I know a few oil changes and other things I did myself personally. I have all the invoices from the beginning when we served it for the original owner, right up to the last one on January of 2025 where we replaced the timing belt, water pump, CV boots, flush the brake system, and had a power steering hose fabricated. I also have the original Marrone sticker from the original owner.
Car comes with an extra set of wheels with snow tires currently mounted. I also have a box full of some electrical components that were salvaged from another S4.
The car starts, runs and drives great. There are a few things that don’t work so great. One being the fuel sensor shows empty all the time. That just started while the car was in the shop. Seems to be a sender unit. The sound system has an issue either in a speaker or in a channel. I do have a used one, but I’ve never installed it. The power antenna no longer works and has been disconnected. The antenna is still in place and original. In while the interior is in very good condition, the carbon fiber interior trim inside is cracking due to our warm Arizona weather. in early 2007 a customer backed into the left rear door of the car. He was repaired by a local body shop using a new left lower quarter panel and repainted.
And the main issue if there is one is the clearcoat on the paint finish is going away and, in my mind, technically the car should be repainted. I will leave that to the next owner.
So while being an original Arizona car has its advantages of no rust and corrosion anywhere, the sun here is hard on paint.
