What’s the difference between the LX and GT?
The LX and GT are actually more similar than you’d think under the skin! Both share the same 5.0L V8 High Output engine making ~225 horsepower and 300 lb-ft of torque, and both can be had with the same manual or automatic transmissions.
So what’s different? Mostly weight and looks:
The LX 5.0 (like you’re looking at): Lighter at around 3,100 lbs, with cleaner, simpler styling — no ground effects, no big spoiler, just the basic Mustang shape. Enthusiasts love the LX for its “sleeper” status and better power-to-weight ratio.
The GT: Adds ground effects/aero body kit, a rear spoiler, fog lights, GT badges, and usually upgraded wheels. All those body add-ons add weight (roughly 100-150 lbs), but give it that classic ‘87-‘93 Mustang sporty look.
Why pick one over the other?
The LX 5.0 is actually what the Classic.com market calls “the sweet spot of the Fox Body era — lightweight, simple, and powered by Ford’s legendary 5.0.” They typically carry an average value around $23,500 right now.
