What you see here is one of the most impressive cars on the road, a BMW 8 series from 1997. How many cars can still turn heads at age 30? This one is guaranteed to.
I have owned this car since 2003 and have virtually all repair records since my purchase. It has been garaged the entire time and rarely exposed to the elements. It is a pleasure to drive, but now, at my age, I don't drive that much. So I'm looking for a good home for it.
Pros: The engine is a beast; I have not idea what it's top speed is, but it's faster than I've ever pushed it. AC works flawlessly, and it sports an aftermarket Alpine CD player, with an outboard amplifier and subwoofer setup. Recent repairs include new brake rotors and completely new electrical harness. Exterior is in very good condition, particularly considering its age. The right door sustained small damage in a fender-bender almost 10 years ago and was flawlessly repaired and repainted. Interior shows some wear, particularly the leather on the driver's seat.
Issues: There are a handful of them, but nothing that impacts the drivability of the car.
1. Check-engine light is always on. I'm told this is an issue with one of the oxygen sensors int he emissions control system, which my mechanic cannot fix. For me, it is a non-issue, because in New York, cars over 25 years old are exempt from emissions inspections.
2. Trunk lid cannot be opened normally; you must use the key as explained in the owners manual.
3. Passenger seat moves forward and back, but not up and down.
4. Aftermarket 18-inch rims have some curb rash and would probably perform better if they were straightened.
