Some Porsche models leave the factory in Stuttgart as sports cars. Others are later given a second life, developed by specialists who apply their own interpretation to performance and individuality. This 1999 Porsche 911 clearly belongs to the latter category. Not a standard 996, but a Gemballa built GTR 500 BiTurbo originating from a period in which independent German tuners gained international recognition for technically ambitious conversions.

The foundation for this car was a Porsche 996 Carrera 4, subsequently converted to full GTR 500 specification. Gemballa, founded in 1981 in Baden Württemberg by Uwe Gemballa, became known for projects in which design, engineering, and performance were elevated into a clearly recognizable signature. During that era, the company established itself as a respected name within exclusive Porsche modifications.

Gemballa engineering
At the core of this specification is the BiTurbo configuration, developed to significantly increase output compared to the original factory version. The result is a Porsche that clearly distinguishes itself from standard 996 models, both technically and visually. Power figures in the region of 500 horsepower positioned this GTR among the most ambitious street conversions of its time.

As customary with Gemballa projects, the focus extended beyond engine performance alone. Aerodynamic components, wheel configuration, and interior refinement formed part of a comprehensive concept that was assembled according to individual client specification. This particular example was delivered new in Belgium and features an extensive options list consistent with the exclusive positioning of the model.

A rare presence
Within the 996 generation, an original Gemballa conversion occupies a distinctive place today. While many Porsche models were produced in large numbers, only a limited number were converted by Gemballa to GTR specification. As a result, examples such as this rarely appear on the market.

The car recently benefited from substantial maintenance carried out by a Dutch Porsche specialist, ensuring the technical foundation was thoroughly inspected and serviced. It presents in a condition consistent with enthusiast ownership and careful stewardship.

A product of its era
The late nineteen nineties marked a period in which high performance tuning companies pushed technical boundaries. Gemballa played a visible role with projects based on contemporary Porsche models, placing performance and individuality at the forefront. Cars from this period are now often regarded as representative of a time when specialized manufacturers operated with considerable creative freedom in the upper segment of road cars.

Behind the wheel, you experience a 911 that feels familiar yet distinctly different from a standard Carrera. All wheel drive combined with turbocharged power delivery provides immediate and forceful acceleration, while the compact 996 platform retains its characteristic precision.
