what makes the 40th anniversary edition special?

The 2004 Porsche 911 Carrera 40th Anniversary Edition is special for several compelling reasons that make it a true collector’s piece in the 996 lineup:

Limited Production & Heritage

  • Just 1,963 units were produced worldwide – the number commemorates 1963, the year the original Porsche 911 debuted at the Frankfurt Motor Show
  • This was the 40th birthday celebration of the iconic 911, making it a historically significant model

Exclusive Styling

  • GT Silver Metallic (LM7Z) – this color was exclusive to the 40th Anniversary Edition; no other 996 could be ordered in this shade
  • Aerokit bodywork as standard: Turbo-style front bumper with enlarged cooling ducts, Aerokit side skirts, edition-specific rear badging, and polished exhaust outlets
  • 18” Carrera II wheels – unique to this model, not available on regular Carreras

Performance Upgrades

  • X51 Powerkit fitted as standard – this was a costly option on regular Carreras, but included here:
    • Revised intake and exhaust manifolds
    • Modified camshaft profiles and engine management
    • Improved cooling
    • Output increased to 345 horsepower (vs. 320 hp in standard 996 Carrera)
  • Limited-slip differential and six-speed manual gearbox (rear-wheel drive)

Premium Equipment as Standard

  • Heated power-adjustable seats
  • Bose High End sound system
  • Automatic climate control
  • Sunroof

All of these items were optional extras on regular Carreras, but came standard on the anniversary edition.

Market Reality

According to our data, 40th Anniversary 996s command a significant premium over standard Carreras. The Classic.com market shows an average sale price of ~$45,500, with recent sales reaching $63,250 and top sales hitting $78,400. With only 108 total listings tracked in our database and often just 1-2 for sale at any given time, they’re genuinely rare finds.

This particular example at 28k miles with excellent panel originality (verified by paint meter) represents an excellent opportunity – though prospective buyers should note the IMS/RMS service hasn’t been done yet, which was factored into the asking price.
