“What are the most common problems with the 2007 Saturn Sky’s transmission?”

Most 2007 Saturn Sky automatic owners see the same handful of 5L40E transmission quirks:

  1. Harsh or delayed shifts – usually caused by failing shift solenoids (there are three in the valve body).
  2. Occasional slip-bump on down-shifts – low or dirty fluid makes it worse, but the root fix is often the solenoid pack.
  3. Check-engine light with codes like P0756 or P2714 – both point to solenoid performance/stuck-off issues.
  4. A GM TSB recommends a ‘shift-adapt relearn’ after any battery or software reset; skipping it can exaggerate the above symptoms.

The good news: at 14 k miles the transmission is barely broken-in, so a fluid/filter service and the relearn (dealer scan-tool procedure) usually keeps the car shifting smoothly.
