Lot DDA42263: 2013 Ford E-250

The 2013 Ford E-250’s 4R75E 4-speed automatic is generally sturdy, but four problems crop up most often:

1. Overheating – Usually from low or old fluid, or a clogged transmission cooler. You’ll notice a burning smell or sluggish shifts.

2. Gear slipping – High revs before the van moves; usually low fluid, a tired solenoid, or worn clutches/torque-converter.

3. Erratic or harsh shifting – Feels like it can’t decide which gear to pick; causes range from dirty fluid to a flaky transmission-control unit.

4. Fluid leaks – Most often the pan or cooler-line gaskets; puddles under the van and repeated top-offs are the giveaway.

Regular fluid and filter changes (and keeping the cooler clear) prevent most headaches. If you’re looking at the white work van on our lot, it shifts smoothly in the photos, but at 162k miles you’ll want to verify the service history and take it for a long test-drive up to highway speed.
