Ford introduced the latest generation of the Shelby Mustang GT 350 in model year 2015. Based on the then new sixth generation Mustang, the platform was ideal for the Shelby GT 350 being 28% more rigid than its predecessor and featuring independent rear suspension. Ford took this car to another level with a special engine – exclusive to the GT 350 – a 5.2 liter V-8 engine producing 526 horsepower in naturally aspirated form. Nicknamed the “VOODOO”, the engine featured a flat plane crankshaft design that enabled a red-line of 8,250 rpm. It shares the same legendary status as that of the other limited production high performance engines within the Ford family such as the SOHC (single overhead cam) 427 and the BOSS 429. It is coupled to a 6-speed Tremec 3160 manual transmission and a Torsen limited slip rear differential. Stopping power is provided by Brembo disc brakes – six piston front /four piston rear with massive cross drilled rotors. The suspension was given equal attention with MagneRide damping, shock absorbers that adjust their compression and rebound in milliseconds. Larger diameter sway bars, a structural truss brace joining the front shock towers and wide wheels – 11” * 19” rear and 10.5” * 19” front mounted on 305/35 * 19” and 295/35 *19 tires respectively – make the Shelby GT 350 a very capable cornering machine rivaling that of Europeans finest. The body was also given aerodynamic treatment forward of the A pillar with a lowered hood (with functional heat extraction vents), a new front fascia and front splitter for improved downforce and additional engine cooling, special flared front fenders with heat extraction vents for the front brakes, and a trunk mounted rear spoiler.
