“What are the key differences between the 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 and the standard 911?”

The 2018 Porsche 911 GT3 and standard 911 (Carrera) are quite different animals, and here’s what sets them apart:

Engine & Performance:

  • GT3: 4.0L naturally aspirated flat-six with 500hp and 339 lb-ft torque
  • Carrera: 3.0L twin-turbo flat-six with 370hp and 331 lb-ft torque (Carrera S has 420hp)
  • The GT3 revs to 9,000 rpm vs about 7,500 for the standard 911

Transmission:

  • GT3: 6-speed manual or 7-speed PDK (automatic) - the one you’re looking at has PDK
  • Carrera: 7-speed manual or 7-speed PDK

Chassis & Handling:

  • GT3: Rear-axle steering, significantly upgraded suspension, wider track, massive rear wing for downforce
  • Carrera: Standard suspension setup, no rear-axle steering (available on some models), more subtle aero

Weight & Construction:

  • GT3: Lightweight construction with carbon fiber components, only 2 seats
  • Carrera: Heavier, more luxury-oriented, 2+2 seating

Driving Experience:

  • GT3: Track-focused, razor-sharp handling, incredible sound (especially with that Akrapovic exhaust!), more visceral
  • Carrera: More refined daily driver, quieter, more comfortable

Pricing (when new):

  • GT3: Started around $145,000
  • Carrera: Started around $92,000 (Carrera S around $110,000)

The GT3 is essentially a race car for the road - it’s Porsche’s motorsport technology distilled into a street-legal package. The standard 911 is more of a grand tourer that can handle daily duties. Both are fantastic, but they serve very different purposes!

Can I help you find more GT3s or would you like to see some standard 911s for comparison?
