is the dark horse worth it over a regular mustang gt?

Great question! Looking at the numbers, this 2024 Dark Horse at $60,000 is actually a pretty solid value.

The Price Picture:

  • This Dark Horse is priced $6,952 below our market benchmark of $66,952 for the model
  • Comparable 2024 GT Premiums with similar miles are running around $49,215 on average
  • So you’re looking at roughly a $10,785 premium over a GT

What That Premium Gets You:

  • 500 HP vs. 480-486 HP in the GT (plus stronger Shelby GT500 connecting rods)
  • Tremec 6-speed manual — significantly tougher gearbox than the GT’s Getrag, built for track abuse
  • Brembo brakes, Torsen LSD, and all the track-focused cooling/aero standard
  • Plus this one’s got the Dark Horse Handling Package ($4,995) and Recaro seats ($1,650) already added

My Take: If you’re planning any track days, absolutely worth it — the Tremec alone is a huge upgrade over the GT’s MT-82, and the stronger internals mean you can beat on it harder. For pure street cruising, the GT’s 480 HP is plenty, but at $60k (below market), this Dark Horse is priced where you’re not overpaying for the badge.
