The fourth generation of BMW 7 Series was introduced for the 2002 model year. Known as the E65, the fourth generation 7 Series signaled a new era in BMW design. Styled by Chris Bangle, the E65's design was a much bolder and less congruent than previous 7 Series cars, and was the subject of much criticism. The fourth generation 7 Series was offered with a variety of gas and diesel engines with different displacements and cylinder configuration, as well as short or long wheelbases (LWB variants feature 'Li' designation). E65 variants include the 730i, 730Li, 735i, 745i, 745Li, 750i, 750Li, 760i, 760Li and the Alpina B7. Built until 2008, the E65 was replaced by the F01 BMW 7 Series for the 2009 model year.
