Using the 8C 35 Tipo C chassis, the Alfa Romeo 8C 2900 was designed to compete in sports car races (not Grand Prix, today F1). Featuring a 2.9 8-cylinder engine with two superchargers and Weber carburetors, it was unveiled in 1935 and participated in the Mille Miglia in 1936, 1937, and 1938, as well as Le Mans in 1939 which Alfa Romeo ran with a special coupe variant. Besides the racing cars, Alfa also produced 32 road-going examples, of which most were bodied by Carrozzeria Touring and some few by Pininfarina.
