The third generation of Austin-Healey Sprite, known as the Mk III, was introduced in 1964 for the 1965 model year. The Mk III Sprite featured largely the same styling as its predecessor, a slightly curved windshield and the addition of external door handles are among the most notable changes. The 1.1L inline four engine received a small update, with new camshaft bearings that helped the unit produce 59hp. Production of the Mk III Sprite continued until 1966, when the Austin-Healey Sprite Mk IV was unveiled.
