The Bristol 403 was replaced in 1954 by the 404 and 405, two new designs. The 405 was produced as a four-door sedan and a two-door convertible in addition to the 404, which was a coupe. The updated body designs of the 404 and 405 were very different from those of their forerunners. Two different inline six-cylinder engines were used to build the vehicles, but the majority, received the 125hp 2.0L version. By the time production ceased in 1958, only 52 examples of the 404 and 308 units of the 405 had been produced. The 404 and 405 were succeeded by the Bristol 406.
