Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 - 1st Gen (1967 to 1969)

The Camaro Z/28 was a high performance version of the Chevrolet Camaro introduced as part of the First Generation Camaro. The Z/28 package was created to homologate a nearly race ready version of the Camaro, so the factory could compete in the SCCA Trans Am racing class. The Z/28 was introduced with a 302 cubic inch V8 engine as Trans Am regulations limited engine displacement to 305 cubic inches. This engine was notably underrated. While it was advertised at 290hp, the solid lifter motor produced over 360hp with the stock 4 barrel carburetor, and over 400hp when fitted with an over the counter camshaft and the rare "cross ram intake" with dual 4V carburetors. The Z/28 option was only offered on the coupe body style, and required buyers to add power disc brakes and a manual 4-speed transmission. It was also an option to add the 'RS' appearance package with the Z/28. Camaro's fitted with the Z/28 package also received upgraded suspension and 15" wheels  in order to improve handling and performance, and wore a distinctive twin racing stripe decal. Over 28,000 examples of the first generation Z/28 Camaro were built before production ended in 1969. It was succeeded by the 2nd gen Camaro Z28 in 1970.
