Chevrolet Camaro - 1st Gen (1967 to 1969)

The Camaro was created by Chevrolet to compete with the Ford Mustang, and was introduced for the 1967 model year. The first generation of Camaro was offered as a rear wheel drive hardtop or convertible. A wide range of engine options were fitted to the orginal Camaro, including inline six and V8 units. The first generation was available with a wide variety of factory and dealer options packages, but the three main offerings were the RS, SS, and Z/28 packages. The RS was an appearance package that featured hidden headlights as well as additional bright trim and 'RS' badging. The SS package was a performance package that was offered with a 350 cu.in. or 396 cu.in. V8 engine, improvements to the suspension and drivetrain, as well as 'SS' badging and side striping. The Z/28 was intially an unadvertised package that offered almost race-ready Camaros with an under-rated 290hp 302 cu.in. V8 engine. In addition to those packages, other notable first generation Camaro variants were the dealer-modified Yenko Camaro, the COPO Camaro, and the 1969 Camaro ZL-1, which was a limited production COPO (Central Office Production Order). Due to the Camaro's popularity, it is commonly turned into a Custom vehicle. Chevrolet built the first generation Camaro until 1969, and replaced it with the Second Generation Camaro.
