The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was a performance variant for the C5 Corvette that debuted for the 2001 model year. The standard, or Base Model Z06 was only available in a coupe body style and it was powered by Chevrolet's LS6 engine. The LS6 was a 5.7L naturally aspirated V8 which initially had an output of 385hp (increased to 405hp from 2002) that drove the rear wheels through a 6 speed manual transmission. The Z06 also featured a range of weight saving measures, as well as dynamic enhancements which saw overall performance improve. Production of the C5 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Base Model lasted until 2004.
