Edsel was an American automotive brand that was founded in 1957. Ford created Edsel in order to add to its range of brands, and to take from the market share of its main competitors, General Motors and Chrysler. Named after Edsel Ford, this new company first introduced its models for the 1958 model year. Seven models were created: Ranger, Pacer, Bermuda, Citation, Villager, Roundup, and Corsair. Commercially, Edsel faired very poorly after its debut, with sales far from what was expected. This lack of sales meant only three model survived past 1958, before all remaining Edsel production ended in 1960, and the brand was dissolved.
