The third generation of Ford Bronco was introduced for the 1980 model year. This latest generation of Bronco was based on the Seventh Generation F-150 F-Series, and was only offered as an all wheel drive, three door SUV. Engine options included a 4.9L inline six, or three V8 small block units, available with manual or automatic transmissions. For 1984, Ford introduced the Bronco II, an unrelated compact SUV model built on a Ford Ranger platform, intended to hark back to the original Bronco. Production of the third generation lasted until 1986, when it was replaced by the Fourth Generation Ford Bronco.
