The second generation of Ford Galaxie debuted for the 1960 model year. The second generation Galaxie was offered in a range of body styles, including two or four door hardtops, two or four door sedans, and a two door convertible. The Galaxie was Ford's top full-size model until 1962, when they introduced the Galaxie 500 trim level. The Galaxie 500 XL trim was also introduced, although only available on the two door hardtop and convertible. A 3.7L inline six engine was offered as standard, while a selection of V8 engines were optional, with a 7.0L unit topping the range. The Starliner hardtop was one of the most notable variants for this generation, as was the convertible Sunliner. Over the course of production, the Galaxie, which had comprised of the entire full-size range in 1962, saw its entry-level trims replaced by the Ford 300 and Ford Custom leaving only the Galaxie 500 and Galaxie 500 XL. The second generation was built until 1964, when it was replaced by the Third Generation Ford Galaxie.
