The Ford Mustang SVT Cobra was a high-performance variant of the SN-95 Fourth Generation Mustang that debuted for the 1994 model year. It featured additional exterior styling, performance, and handling over the contemporaneous Mustang GT. The SVT (Special Vehicle Team) Cobra was initially only offered in a coupe, but soon after a convertible was added. Exterior features were a stylized front bumper and round fog lights, reflective headlights, hood, wheels, side rocker panel, rear bumper, spoiler, and dual exhaust outlets. 1994-1995 cars used a 5.0L Cobra V8 engine, while 1996-1998 saw a new aluminum 4.6L DOHC modular unit used. Engines produced 275 hp and 305 hp, respectively. SVT created two special versions based on the SVT Cobra, including the 1994 Indy Pace Car Replica and the 1996 Mystic Cobra. The Indy Pace Car Replica was produced to commemorate a trio of convertibles used as pace cars, and 1,000 convertibles in Rio Red with Saddle leather interiors and a saddle convertible top with Pace Car stickers were sold. 1,999 Mystic Cobras were produced in 1996 to celebrate the new modular V8 engine and featured a unique color-shifting paint. Ford's SVT division produced the more powerful Mustang SVT Cobra R in 1995. The SVT Cobra was succeeded by the SN-99 Mustang SVT Cobra for the 1999 model year.
