The Tipo 8 was introduced by Isotta Fraschini in 1919. This car marked Isotta Fraschini's transition towards high-end luxury cars. Aimed at the world elite, competing with brands such as Rolls-Royce and Hispano-Suiza, the Tipo 8 was sold as chassis and engine only, with bodies designed by manufacturers such as Castagna, Cesare Sala and Zagato. With a 3-speed manual transmission and power sent to the rear wheels, the Tipo 8 was known for being the first production car with an inline eight-cylinder engine. This was a 5.9L inline eight that allowed the car to reach a maximum speed of approximately 125km/h. With a design focused on smoothness and luxury, rather than speed or sporting performance, the Tipo 8 was used by aristocrats, diplomats and film stars in the 1920s. The Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8 was produced until 1924 when it was replaced by the Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8A.
