1988 was Lamborghini's 25th anniversary year, and to celebrate the occasion, they launched a new and much revised Countach. Commonly known as the Anniversario, the 25th Anniversary Edition was the last Countach produced. Often regarded as the most refined Countach, and depending on your taste, one of the best looking. The Anniversario was mechanically very similar to its predecessor, the LP5000 QV, even featuring the same 5.2L V12 engine. Although there were few physical changes to the drivetrain, there was extensive testing and roadwork undertaken to improve the Countach's driving characteristics on the road. The interior of the Anniversario also received much updating. Power windows, more comfortable seats, improved sound insulation, and a stronger air conditioning system were some of the many updates for this last Countach variant. As with the LP5000 QV, a carbureted version was available for Europe, as was a fuel injection one for the US. These cars can be differentiated by either a single central bulge on the engine cover for the Euro version, and two bulges on the sides of the cover for the US version. For all of the changes underneath the bodywork of the Anniversario, it was the design changes on the surface that helped these new cars to stand out from previous models. With numerous styling updates designed by Horacio Pagani, the Anniversario is the most angular and aggressive Countach. The side skirts and front bumpers were larger and featured more aerodynamic and performance inspired touches. These touches included front bumper air vents for brake cooling, re-profiled fenders, redesigned two piece wheels, and rear brake air intake slots on the side skirts. A new bumper was also added, giving the Anniversario an instantly recognizable rear profile. Even with all of these changes, the most distinguishing features on these cars are the radiator air intakes behind the doors. Thicker, vertical body colored slats were introduced, in keeping with 25th Anniversary Edition's aggressive, aerodynamically inspired styling. While some might say the Anniversario's looks divide opinion, with only 657 produced, it is undeniably a rare and treasured classic.
