Land Rover Ninety/OneTen (1984 to 1990)

The first generation of the Land Rover Defender, which was initially called the Land Rover Ninety and Land Rover One Ten (or 90/110), was a series of off-road vehicles that replaced the original Land Rover Series. Introduced for the 1984 model year, the Ninety/OneTen incorporated significant changes from its predecesor which included new coil springs in all four corners, improving ride quality and chassis dynamics. It also featured a lockable center differential that allowed the new Ninety/OneTen to feature permanent four-wheel-drive capability. On the cosmetic side, a new a full-length bonnet with revised grille, plus the fitting of wheel arch extensions to cover wider-track axles were the most important changes. It was available in a variety of body styles (Wagon, Soft Top, Hard Top, and Single Cab and Double Cab Pickup), and was highly regarded for its all-terrain abilities and rugged engineering. Over the course of production, three main variants, each named after their relative wheelbase lengths were built. These were known as the 90, 110, and 127. They were replaced by the L316 Defender in 1990.
